This initiative is designed to support farmers who are already practicing agroforestry
but wish to
register their land for carbon benefits. No financial assistance is provided for this component, but
farmers can still derive significant carbon benefits for their plantations.
Eligibility
Farmers with agroforestry plantations established after 2019. A minimum plantation
density of at least
300 trees per hectare is required. An average of 450 trees per hectare is recommended for maximum carbon
benefits.
Plantation Composition
A mix of forestry and horticultural species is encouraged.
Self-Managed or Scheme-Driven
The plantation can be either self-initiated or supported through any government
schemes.
Exclusivity
The plantation should not be part of any other carbon project to qualify for
registration under MegCare.
Training and Support
Farmers will receive expert-led training on sustainable agroforestry practices
throughout the duration of
the plantation.
Issuance of CRUs
The farmers will start receiving CRUs after 5 years of the plantation.
For farmers with agroforestry systems that require enhancement, this initiative offers
financial
assistance to fill gaps in tree density and ensure a healthy, thriving plantation. Farmers can register
and get benefits from carbon credits derived from these plantations.
Eligibility
Farmers whose existing agroforestry systems have low tree survival rates and require
gap filling. An
average of 450 trees per hectare is recommended for maximum carbon benefits.
Species Selection
Farmers can choose from a range of pre-approved agroforestry species. A mix of forestry
and horticultural
species is encouraged to increase biodiversity and enhance the potential for Non-Timber Forest Products
(NTFPs).
Financial Support
Support is provided for saplings, plantation establishment, and ongoing protection and
maintenance for
three years
Training and Support
Farmers will receive expert-led training on sustainable agroforestry practices
throughout the duration of
the plantation.
Issuance of CRUs
The farmers will start receiving CRUs after 5 years of the plantation.
This initiative encourages farmers with vacant or underutilized land to adopt
agroforestry practices.
Through risk-free upfront financing provided by IORA-Acorn, farmers can establish new agroforestry
plantations, with protection and monitoring costs covered for up to three years.
Eligibility
Farmers with land that has not experienced more than 60% intentional tree cutting in
the last 5 years.
Financial Assistance
Support is provided for saplings, plantation establishment, and ongoing protection and
maintenance for three years.
Species Selection
Farmers can choose from region-specific agroforestry models tailored to maximize
productivity and carbon sequestration. A mix of forestry and horticultural species is encouraged to
increase biodiversity and enhance the potential for Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs).
Training and Support
Farmers will receive expert-led training on sustainable agroforestry practices
throughout the duration of the plantation.
Issuance of CRUs
The farmers will start receiving CRUs after 5 years of the plantation.
